Ocean Virtual Laboratory

The aimof this activity is To exploit the synergy between Sentinel instruments and other mission EO datasets together with in situ measurements in complex waters and improve scientific understanding of ocean and coastal processes and impacts.
This project will:

• Design, develop, validate and implement an Ocean Virtual Laboratory (OVL) in the Aghulas current ocean and related coastal region.
• Develop an international framework for a network of OVL that allows the addition of other complementary OVL provided by external international partners.
• Design, develop, validate and implement necessary tools to realise an OVL.
• Verify the consistency, performance and quality of Sentinel data products over the ocean and coastal zone.
• Develop new synergy methods and techniques that maximize the scientific return of measurements derived from the combined Sentinel payload over the ocean and coastal zone.
• Initiate an ESA Ocean Virtual Laboratory as a pilot for potential future activities.
